Woot .... loved the new announcement Vicki!! You are doing incredible things!! I'm loving my new home at Oscraps ... and either way ... I'm staying you are STUCK with me FOR SURE!! I ain't leaving you can't make me!!

Ok ... but dude ... seriously .. someone has to help me with the ACDSee thing?? Is the $69.99 one comparable to PSP or whatever else people are using??

Cause if it is ... and it's honestly idiot proof -- cause I'm a wee bit of a spaz technologically ... I'm all in like a dirty shirt.

Thanks Krista~

Might I recommend that you download the trial version of the editor before buying - but don't forget to come back to oscraps to actually make your purchase!!!

You won't have to download and install it again (just download the kit for sure!) and I will send you the license codes to plug into your already set up version!

I personally like the editor a LOT! It does some things WAY better than elements for digiscrapping (like dropshadows!!!) and it's easy enough that my son was able to play with it with very little frustration (for either of us lol)

Ok so it's a replacement for PSP then?? :) Of course I would buy it here!! LOL!!

Does it require more or less RAM than PSP??? :)
Cat

I would love to know that too Krista!! Me and PSP are having serious issues right now!! I was going to get DH to buy me the XI version, but it SUCKS big time, its forever hanging and crashing on me.

I do love PSP, but if something is going to be easier with working, in fact working full stop would just be so freeking great!! I would buy it!!

The ACDSee photo editor for 69.99 will do the many of the features you need for digital scrapbooking. Some things are much easier to do than in PSP. I have been using a combination of PSP and Fotofusion in the past and now I have been trying out ACDSee photo editor. It's too soon yet for my pro's and con's list though.

Yes, ACDSee photo editor takes less RAM. The difference I see is ACDSee takes about 30% less memory usage than PSP 9. When I open the same photo in both: ACDSee Photo Editor takes 20% less memory usage than PSP 9. I do not have the latest PSP to compare to.

I too, would recommend downloading a trial version.

Many of us have been using ACDSee Photo Manager and have been very impressed on how well we can manage our digital scrapbooking library -- out kits, photos and layouts.

I also want to mention that I foresee tutorials on using ACDSee photo editor to do digital layouts in the near future along with more ACDSee Photo Manager tutorials.

Lastly, I think you will find many supportive people on this board helping you out if you can't figure something out.

Well said Heidi!

I'm working on my pros and cons list too!

11-26-2006, 05:01 PM
Well ... thank you Heidi!! :) I appreciate your honesty!! I currently can't do templates with PSP on my computer ... cause it KILLS the RAM! Which makes me want to CRY since there are 12000000 awesome templates out there and I would LOVE to give them a crack ... but ... I can't. :( The little VIRTUAL memory doda pops up and I just want to cry like a baby. I have TONS of memory .... and should be able to use it all. I even get into trouble with text on a path from time to time.

I have had to stop working on a layout as I am seriously ready to throw my puter out of the window, keep getting 'not enough memory to complete action'

ARRRGH!!

I built a template in photo editor the other day and it worked great - has to be saved in .tiff format - so definately download the .tiff version of templates!!!!
Myoldanlac
11-26-2006, 05:21 PM
Ohhh boy ... this could be a whole new world for me .... I don't even know what a tiff file is!! LOL .... what is it everytime I type something to you Vicki it comes out as song!! :)
VickiStegall
11-26-2006, 05:23 PM
because I am song worthy! 8)

let me throw together a template for you in .tiff format to try out (basically its a layered file like a .psd but it saves MUCH smaller as it is compressed and it doesn't lose anything in the compression either!!!!)
Cat
11-26-2006, 05:27 PM
Wow, all I can say is WOW!!!

If I purchase this now, I think I most likely will from what I see already, do I just need to buy it through the store without the zip files? I cant believe it can do so much and is way cheeper than PSP!!
Myoldanlac
11-26-2006, 05:32 PM

Oh boy I have that scared feeling like when I started scrapping ... May seems like only yesterday! I need a BIG lesson on how to use this!
Cat
11-26-2006, 05:54 PM
I know what you mean sweets, it is the same feeling I had when I first used PSP for making sigs all those years ago, I honestly dont think 7 days is enough time to get use to a program! :?
Myoldanlac
11-26-2006, 05:56 PM
Me either ... cause I likely won't open it again ... lol ... because it scares me!! :(
Cat
11-26-2006, 05:59 PM
Honey, I remember your very first scrapping days, and look how well you went with it. I have every faith in you completing masterpieces and ranting and raving about how great ACDsee is by Friday!!
Myoldanlac
11-26-2006, 06:00 PM
LOL!! Well I'm glad you have faith in me .... cause well .... some of those early layouts were NASTA!!!

I've looked but can't find if this is compatiable with a Mac computer? Does anyone know? Connie??

You go girls.... I am here to help.

First thing is - watch the video for photo editor - it's on the left when you first open it. There are a lot of photos, but once it gets going it will show you some things.

The software acts more like publisher. I like that it is easier - but there are some things that need adjusting to. Please have patience & we'll get there.

Both Heidi & I scrap in Fotofusion - and Photo Editor has a much higher functionality than that. But we're still creating our list of pro's & con's as Heidi said.

There are some very helpful directions on the right -- step thru those before you get too frustrated. And remember that psp & ps aren't overly intuitive. I still don't know what a raster layer mean! lol I know what I can do - but don't care about the term 'raster'.
Connie
11-26-2006, 07:00 PM
and the trial is 7 days.... but maybe in the next week we can get some basics figured out.

I had a hard time with rotating an image -- you need to click on skew.

Watch the video - to find it look on the 'Quick Launch' screen. If you've closed yours - when you first open the program - click on the 'open' in the bottom right.

Once you have the Quick Launch window open you'll see two boxes in the center -- Click on the left one that says: ''See what you can create''
-- and stay with the video -- there are like 6 images at first...

It will show making a card

Thanks Heidi for letting me know!

11-26-2006, 07:15 PM
Ok, I've been playing all this time using a template in there... It's not that easy, but doable.

And, I was wrong - yes, I admit lol - you need the .psd files not the .tif... while I could create a layered tiff, the layers didn't come out when I opened it in editor.

I'm working on an email to ACDSee as I type this. Hopefully we'll have some answers for you quickly!

Ladies ... seriously LISTEN to me ... I am a bit of a technological IDIOT at times ... I will get it eventually ... but I will stress and worry and fret about it until I do ... that's part of my personality. :) I'm not upset ... not one little bit. I think this is an AMAZING opportunity for Oscraps and digiscrappers alike .. ;)

Krista - I am PSP challenged most of the time!! I go back to fotofusion to do Text on a straight line. seriously!

We'll get to work on some tutorials...... Fotofusion gave me a headache at first too!
VickiStegall

Krista, don't feel bad about this... I worry and fret about stuff myself!

I've made the decision to take the editor and fotoslate out of the store temporarily until I've had time to make some tutorials, etc. I simply can't support this in the way I would like to (nor realize I would need to - and it's a good thing really!!! I WANT to be able to give you the support you need! and I'm using the collective you, not just you Krista!).

Like I said before, I'm putting together an email for the folks at ACDSee to see how quickly we can get it together better. :) They really are an incredible company that honestly does care about our needs!

So, play with manager only for now! We've got 2 of the most knowledgeable people in the world in regards to photo manager right here in the forums with us - Connie and Heidi!
Connie

Yes Vicki - Heidi & I are here.

Photo Manager is a great product and we've figured so many things out in the last 2 weeks.

It will take some time to do similarly with Photo Editor. (I know that Vicki has a site to run & designing to do herself - so she will help).

And as Vicki said - the company has been very receptive to supporting their products. I have a feature article that will be coming out in DST's December newsletter on Photo Manager & it's uses.

Today I installed it on my parent's computer & my sis-in-law was impressed with how nicely it dealt with red-eye.

Have patience grasshoppers - and stay tuned!

(Doesn't Vicki just rawk!??!!)

You guys are seriously ACE!!! I am with Krista, I am a bit of a doofus when it comes to things like this, give my BB and HTML codes any day

I think its the fact that its a different program, and I am not use to change which puts me off, but once I get to play around with it I am sure it will be straight forward :)

Sarah (my 3yr old) insists I put in a happy face as she really thinks its cute  <- that apparently is the happy face!!

Nina - I have 3 DVD's (15 gig) cataloged & all of my elements - that took me about 8 hrs. I have a LOT left to do. But I only am cataloging previews of kits & elements. I have a ways to go......

You don't need to do it all in one day dear.

And Heidi & I are here to help.
