Hi all,
If you're searching for good software for organizing your stash - or have already started using acdSee - and have questions..... post it here.

As a librarian, I love to get things in order - and I've been enjoying making this program sing & dance. I'll help if you have questions.

I've been hearing about this acdsee, can you point me to a place where I can learn how it works, or at least where I can get a copy???

Thanks Connie, for bringing this up, I've been meaning to ask about it for awhile. :D

Here is the website:
http://www.acdsee.com/
Even the basic program is out of my price range, but it looks cool.

I use PSE Organizer and Picasa..... but I wish there was something easier

Sure Ronee - my suggestion is to do 2 things:
1) download the trial (faery provided the link - thank you dear!)
2) ponder this thread at DST
http://www.digishoptalk.com/boards/showthread.php?t=14546&highlight=acdSee

(it got huge - but I think that underlines the value of the software.... in the beginning I outlined how I use it & people added - and ShellyRae wrote 2 tutorials for it at SBB - I'll linky you:

tutorials at SBB
http://scrapbook-bytes.com/cgi-script/tutorials/publish/cat_index_59.shtml

3) and someone found a coupon for $8 off thru Oct. 31, add the $5 off in the early part of the trial - and you can buy for $28 (a far cry from the $42 I spent- ugh) - thread is at DST too:

After the long thread at DST - people are PM'ing me now with questions - which is great (I don't mind searching the help area - but I'm becoming one with it).... and starting to sound like a walking ad... but you may as well take advantage of it. I can be useful other than socially - lol :P

Um, Connie... I'm horrible at organizing... wanna come over and help Anna get me organized? (although I think she really just wants to come over and dig through my unfinished designs and beat me about the head and shoulders until I finish her favorites...)

Thanks Connie and Chris! I will check that stuff out later this evening.

That's so funny Vicki, because I have one solid white, textured paper that I made for a layout to match a pp that I really liked, and it's driving me crazy. I am always looking to put stuff in a place. If it doesn't have a place I toss it (yes even digital kits that I don't use, and know I won't again, *gasp*) if I can't toss it it has to find a place. I think I'd be better off if I were just unorganized!

So I've been going nuts trying to come up with a kit to go with this white textured paper, lol. I can't imagine having a bunch of stuff that just doesn't fit anywhere.

ahhahaha Ronee! I had a brainstorm this weekend for all those papers we make and love but have nothing to go with... I'll catch you on Hello later and tell ya my plans!

mmmm ok Vicki! I'll come on down. As long as you promise to not reheat leftovers.....ok?

I spent yesterday with my Sis - who really is the org. software guru... Now she has me thinking about an EHD.

I can go about a week without unzipping - but then I get nervous.... (it's my work influencing me.... because today I was pondering my laundry room - and I SO am not organized in there! ugh). So don't think it covers all aspects of my life -- my problem is - I still can't let go of some things.

WOOHOO! Come on down! I promise, I will just take you out to all the best restaurants with no reheating!!! LOL I am never gonna live that down

8)

For some odd reason - my laundry room is VERY organized... maybe cuz I don't spend much time in there ahhahaha

This looks really great! I am so excited about it, thank you for sharing Connie! I keep everything by designer name right now, and while I liked the idea of being able to find things by item type and color, I wasn't willing to let go of being able to find them by designer. With this I could do both.

I think I'll download the free trial in the next few days, and I'll let you know how it goes!!!

I keep things by designer name too by using the naming convention for the file name of:
designer name - element name - color ... (the last part is provided - I just make sure the designer name is first

I use keywords for color - and others use categories.. but if you browse that thread you'll see the pro's & con's. Feel free to ask if you have questions.

Okay, I am totally downloading this tomorrow! I've had a bunch of scrapping deadlines to meet today, some of them with required color pallettes, and I've been sitting thinking things like, "I wonder if I have a green ribbon?" then I think, if I got ACDSee like Connie told me to, I'd be able to find it.

And now, I'm trying to finish one of the last ones and having to browse through my digi files on my laptop, but the files are stored on the other computer, so that means everything takes a flippin century! But if I was just looking at previews, and then inserting discs, there'd be no problem.

And then- the big kicker- if everything is stored on disc, then I can take it with me and my laptop to go crop anywhere!! Right now everything is on the main computer because it's better than this one, so I can't scrap anywhere but at home.

Well, you've convinced me Ronee. 8) (just kidding you - couldn't resist commenting) My sister & I talked & I'm going to step up the system one level. I'm going to move my files to an EHD (which I need to buy yet)... but, also burn back ups. I only go to crops twice a year.

You do realize that you're next problem will be disc storage... I found a cool CD box made by Fellowes that has 2 drawers & stores 120 discs in little hanging file sleeves (2 per). We own... ahem 4 or 5 of them. They're like $25 at J&R music & stack nicely - let me know if you want a pic. (Why do we have so many? ahem cough cough - movies on dvd's)

I've got digital scraproom and I love it! http://www.digitalscraproom.com It is still in the early stages of development, so it's not perfect yet, but they really do listen to what customers want, and if you buy it now, $25, you get free upgrades for life.

How it works: You drag your kitsinto the software, keyword them how you want (I just do designer, site, kit name) Then you can copy thumbnails into different folders depending on the item. For example, I've got folders for my ribbons, earth toned papers, stitching...

To use things you just drag the item out of the software into Photoshop or whatever you're using, and it keeps track of it for you! It rocks being able to just create and not having to worry about where you're getting the stuff.
