Oscraps Forum Rules page 1

VickiStegall
08-02-2006, 10:33 AM
The Oscraps family is very relaxed and easy going. We're hoping to welcome everyone - designers and scrappers alike and create an exciting, fun environment.

Our rules are very simple and there aren't that many of them...

We ask you follow normal board etiquette and respect each other.
* No flaming and/or dissent on this board.
* No offensive material related to drugs, sexual orientation or anything that might seem vulgar or profane.

Linking, 'Toot'ing and gallery posting:

* We absolutely don't mind you talking about other sites and designers - we want to know about the latest thing too!
* We do not allow links to other sites in your gallery layout credits. Please, refrain from using this site as a means for mass advertising and no hotlinking!
* We encourage you to participate and post in our challenges and the gallery. We are an open gallery to our active Oscraps members - we want to see what you have created!
* Please, do not post previews of kits located at sites other than Oscraps in the gallery.

Gallery guidelines can be found here: http://ozone.oscraps.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21858

Minimum Post Counts to Post in most areas of the forums:

*We've had to implement minimum post counts to help combat spammers. You can quickly get your post count up by commenting on layouts in the gallery or introducing yourself and greeting others in the Introduce Yourself forum.

We reserve the right to hide, move and/or delete any posts in the forums and/or gallery at our discretion.

We hope you enjoy this site as much as we have enjoyed creating it for you.

Have a great time.
The Oscraps Family

what about blinkies... is there a place that says what can be in the blinkie section? :)

Well... no, we haven't ever had a need to make rules about that so.... as long as it fits within reasonable standards and doesn't violate any of the regular rules go for it.

I do reserve the right to change my mind about this if anyone gets totally wakko with it :)

Are regular gallery posters (like myself) supposed to post LO's under the OSCRAPS DESIGNERS sections of the gallery? I made a LO using only Hollie's goodies and I posted it under her designer gallery. Should I move it? Some places that is just for CT'ers! I just assumed since it let me put it there, it was okay! LOL!

You are okay, Megan. :) Its to show off Hollie's goodies...I mean...her products in action. So post away! :D

* You are welcome to link to other sites. But, please, refrain from using this site as a means for mass advertising and no hotlinking!

Umm, what is the difference between linking and hot linking. I thought that was the same thing. Thanks!

05-29-2008, 09:19 PM
This is how I understand it....please someone jump in and add to this if I am missing anything...:)

"Linking" is when you link to a store's or designers website - thus directing people to their blog/store. (example: their main site address www.oscraps.com ) This is okay :)

"Hotlinking" (Bandwidth Theft) is when you link directly to another sites images or files usually done without permission and is considered stealing. A lot of designers pay for bandwidth so when you hotlink it uses their bandwidth and they actual have to pay for that.

A common example of hotlinking in the digi-world is when people give away someone's freebie link instead of linking to that person's blog or store. That is considered hot linking and piracy.

I hope that helps...their is also a great site to visit geared toward scrappers and designers called "Stop Piracy" (http://jenjen.typepad.com/stoppiracy/) it has a wealth of information if you want to check it out :)

A link is just that posting a link, a hotlink is taking the image from another site and posting it as a link, ie, you copy a product image link then paste it as a full image. By doing that you are taking up the other sites image bandwidth. Linking is just a url address, does that make sense?

You can talk about and link to other sites/designers, but please do not use it for mass advertising or hotlinking. Please avoid "coming soon" posts.

Does this answer your question....

No you are ok, hotlinking is when you are taking an image from another site, when you do that, you are taking their bandwith, some sites allow it, others dont, we dont allow you copying the image link and placing it to another site. Whereas, somewhere like photobucket will allow it.

You are free to link images, for example, you have entered a challenge and you want to show of your layout, you can not copy the image itself, to show it on another site, but you can copy the url address of the image if that makes sense.

Briefly, Hotlinking is when you copy the entire image properties and go and place it at another site using the [IMG] tags

Linking, is just copying the url address of the image.
VickiStegall

Cat's partially right. A lot of places do feel that way about images, but what I'm really referring to about hotlinking is placing direct links to downloads...

well, actually katg1006 said it best on page 2 of this thread....

This is how I understand it....please someone jump in and add to this if I am missing anything...

"Linking" is when you link to a store's or designers website - thus directing people to their blog/store. (example: their main site address www.oscraps.com (http://www.oscraps.com/) ) This is okay

"Hotlinking" (Bandwidth Theft) is when you link directly to another sites images or files usually done without permission and is considered stealing. A lot of designers pay for bandwidth so when you hotlink it uses their bandwidth and they actual have to pay for that.

I hope that helps...their is also a great site to visit geared toward scrappers and designers called "Stop Piracy" (http://jenjen.typepad.com/stoppiracy/) it has a wealth of information if you want to check it out

so, you are perfectly fine to copy the image location and post into your posts here! In fact, like Kaytebug, that's how I do it too :)

EHStudio (Elisa) and others have been complaining about gallery issues recently.
I just responded to EHStudio post.

Perhaps the gallery is going into overload mode (notice my tech terms ;) )

Recently, I have noticed members posting 10 layouts per day (the gallery limit here)

I know most galleries allow maximum 5/day

Maybe Vicki et al should review their very generous guidelines!

I love our "O" home, please, don't take my post in a negative way, want what's best for hOme. and for the gallery to run smoothly.

lotsa hugs
Jacqueline

Well I always liked the big limit especially when LOs would go into different categories or when first joining. (Plus never knowing when inspiration would hit :D )

I have a feeling the gallery issues these last few days aren't due to the bigger limit since it seems the posting has slowed down a little bit due to the holidays, so I think it is something else causing the slow down.

Just my 2 cents ;)
katg1006

Jacqueline -

Understand exactly what you were trying to say! ((hugs)) Thanks for attempting to bring this issue to our attention :) We were all ready aware and working on it behind the scenes :)

The gallery was acting up due to some changes that were being made - actually one of those changes was reducing the number of layouts. We had increased the number of layouts for our birthday celebration and needed to put them back to our original generous number :) Vicki has since made corrections. If anyone is continuing to see any problems after today please let us know :)

Elisa - Totally agree I love the fact that when inspiration hits....The "O" is so generous to allow us to share our creations!! One of things I love about my home is Vicki's generosity and allowing us to share our hobby with each other.

I fell in love with oscraps when I followed Anna Aspnes over here. The quality of artwork is superb, and the community is warm and friendly. I post comments in the forum several times a week, and comment (leave love) in the gallery almost daily. I also post LOs (primarily Anna's goodies) almost every week.

I think of Oscraps as my Other Home!

However, I'm on the CT at Digital Scrapper, and part of that obligation is to post about 3 LOs a month on other sites using DS products. I've been posting them at OS for several months, but no hot links, or repetitious advertising of DS or its designers.

To balance this, I also post my OS LOs at DS, giving full credit.

I think of this as cross-pollinating, and is good for business at both places. I know people at DS LOVE the OS LOs I make using Anna's products, and I would hate to see them institute a policy that would make it impossible for me to continue posting them.

I realize I could make two versions of my DS LOs, and add a token OS product, but that seems a little sneaky. I'd rather just be up-front about what I'm doing.

Thanks for your consideration of my problem!
VickiStegall
01-16-2012, 03:43 PM
SharLamb,
We're putting this policy into place to try to cut down on the number of "drive by" layout droppers who do not actually want to be a part of our community, but are instead just using us to meet CT requirements. We very much do not want to discourage our ACTIVE members from using us as their main gallery and sharing all of their creations with us.

As it says in our main forum/gallery rules, we reserve the right to delete posts/layouts/etc that do not follow our guidelines. In this instance, we also reserve the right to allow our active members a bit of leeway.

I hope this helps!

Okay, so I created an album in the gallery, I successfully uploaded a photo, and then wanted to upload a second photo. The rules state the pic can only be 250k. The second photo was 198k and yet I got a message saying it exceeded the size limit of 97k for this type of file. Both files were 600x600 and less than 250k, and both were jpg files. What am I doing wrong? I have since deleted the album...do I need to have an album to upload photos into the gallery?

Anything you upload always goes in your member gallery.
Even if you upload to a designer gallery it automatically shows up in your member gallery.
You can create an album, but it is not necessary.

Layouts under 250 kb should be okay to upload.

Well, I tried to upload something and I just cannot figure out how to upload photos. I think this is why I don't belong to any galleries. Just too frustrating to sort out the instructions!

make sure the file name doesn't contain and special characters, if I remember correctly, it was causing headaches to some people

"Please post only 5 layouts per day". Found in the Guidelines. My Oscraps "favorites" are going by way to fast and I am unable to follow them and leave them a message.

Please reinforce this guideline as I believe it has it's merits.

Thank you,
Debby Todd

Please post only 5 layouts per day keeping in mind that each additional category counts as a LO.

I enjoy seeing new artists work but sometimes it is overwhelming when they post 10 pages on one day.

Help! I just completed a layout for the Anna Aspnes "5" challenge, but I can't find a way to upload it. I also can't find a way to comment in the gallery. I am a member of the gallery and forums, and thought I'd posted a page or two in the past, but it says no images are in my gallery. What can I do?

I see you now have 2 layouts uploaded, so I think you are okay now?
