get to know you better? Please

Since I'm new here I obviously don't know everyone very well but I'd love the chance to learn some things about you so I thought I would start this thread. It's a game I've played at another site that I thought was a ton of fun... so please join me in...

Did you know?

DYK...
That I live in Hong Kong.
That I have one daughter who is 18 months, Isabella and everyone thinks she's a boy because she has very little hair.
That I've been married for 5 1/2yrs to Mike.
That in those 5 1/2ys we have lived in 2 countries, 3 states, 5 cities and 5 homes?

What about you?
Connie
12-08-2006, 07:49 PM
Sure! I'll play

Did you now
- that I live at the North Pole with the penguins ( ok it's northern Minnesota - I think the North Pole is warmer than we are)
- that most of the Canadanian population lives South of us (seriously! it's a trivial thing - but true - if you look at our latitude - and population density of Canada

- that I have one daughter who is 17 & has a boyfriend whom I love to feed (& he knows he can have anything in the fridge)
- that I've been married for 20 yrs.

wow Melissa - I've lived in one state all my life... umm My claim to fame is that I'm on my 3rd career (each lasted 5 yrs, until this last one - I'm going on 7 yrs now... -- what were they? Law enforcement, teaching & now library admin...

Hobbies are digiscrapping, cooking when I want to make a big meal (otherwise don't ask what's to eat), flower gardening - taking photos of my flowers, ... and I do read but not as much as people think

Thanks for this fun game

Did you know...

I usually am better asking questions than answering them
(I'm a journalist)

I love taking pics of kids (probably why my beat is education)

I actually have a master's degree from Asbury Seminary (was in youth ministry before returning to journalism)

My nickname growing up was kaytebug, and now I drive a "bug"

I grew up on a dairy farm and used to chore before going to school.

The house I grew up in only had wood heat until I went to grad school, so in my room, which was the farthest from the stove, I could keep a cube of soda perfectly chilled just sitting on the floor.

I love to read, quilt, cross stitch and take photos, but everything (except the photos) has been "shelved' for a while because of digi scrapbooking.

So, anyone else on here from Missouri?
Just wondering.

Wow, what a bunch of cool people. This is great, esp since I'm new too...

DKN...

I'm still single at 42 and my soulmate for now is my cute bunny Steinway...

I've lived in boring old Ohio all my life but got a BA in Art History and traveled to Europe, Costa Rica, Canada and spent 6 months in New York City.

I've pursued a variety of spiritual paths, including Catholic, Methodist, New Age, following an indian guru, hanging w/a bunch of Christian psychics and now Pentecostal.

Was stuck for several weeks at a Russian Orthodox Monastery in Texas w/my frend Scott. I had to get a Texas driver's license so I could rent a car and get out.

I love altered art like in Legacy and Somerset magazine. I'd love to do digital stuff that looked like that.

It's weird, I hate doing AAM Lo's but enjoy these types of games!

Did you know....

I've only had one car w/a working radio/tape player and do not own any commercial music tapes or CD's.

Went for years w/o a TV, spent a year addicted to it and then threw away the antenna in disgust (2 weeks later I discovered Digiscrapping).

There is only one member of my nuclear family left alive (my brother in CA) and I only have one relative in state.

During my year as a TV addict I got really into 24, Lost, America's Next Top Model, Desperate Housewives and reality TV. I still buy 24 and Lost on DVD and watch one episode after another!

I used to work at the Columbus Zoo - one of the jobs was the shark tank where you can pet them. But the ones you could pet looked like oversized catfish on tranquilizers!

DYK...

Back in high school, I wrote an experiment for a NASA competition and won a trip to Space Camp to present it at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville. I was super disappointed to discover that Space Camp was nothing like the movie!

I was class valedictorian. One of NINE! I went to school with lots of ambitious people.

I went to college on a free ride, but not of my own free will. My parents really wanted me to stay in state, and I really wanted to go far away! I participated in a scholarship competition just to get them off my back, and I won. DRAT! They won the argument. But, hey, at least I have no student loan debt, right?

My relatives live next door. So do my husband's relatives. In the same house. My neighbor's father and my mother are cousins. He and I have the same great-grandparents. My neighbor's wife is the sister of my husband's cousin's husband. So we're related by blood and marriage. We didn't know each other when we moved to town, and we just happened to buy this house. Now our kids are good friends. And long-lost cousins.

My father-in-law was a chemistry teacher at my mom's high school. She petitioned to attend her high school since she was out of district, so she really wasn't even supposed to be there. My FIL accepted the teaching job right out of college to make a little money before starting medical school, and he commuted back to Des Moines on the weekends. We didn't know this until DH and I started dating and I found Mom's yearbook at his Dad's house. When I told Mom about it, she instantly remembered "Mr. LeMar." All the girls thought he was WAY handsome!

I'm a genealogy NUT! I've been tracing my family tree since I was in high school, and I've made so many connections and met so many kind people because of it. It's one of my biggest passions. It's amazing to think of what had to happen to make you even exist. And it's ultra-spooky how many times my husband's tree and my tree have crossed over the years. Not *that* way, just his people knowing my people or living next to each other in itty bitty towns.

I taught myself how to knit, crochet and sew. It took a LOOOOOONG time, but now I always have something to do regardless of where I am!

I hate peanut butter and nuts of any kind. I've never eaten PB&J. Not allergic, just hate the taste and texture.

TV bores me to death, but I always have it on for background noise.

I allow myself two "doses" of Dr. Pepper every day.

Carla, Tania and I are in the same boat. Thanks for sharing, ladies. It's comforting to know we're not alone.

I have three very healthy and happy children, ages 7, 4 and 10 mos.

I've been married for 9 years. Whoa. NINE YEARS?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I miss living in a big city. I took it for granted while we were in Dallas, and I wish I'd let myself enjoy it more and not be so homesick for Iowa.

I *heart* Oscraps. This is so fun, reading all about you folks. VERY interesting group here!

Thanks for all of the well wishes, all!! the story of Lillian is quite a wonderful one...so thanks for letting me tell it -

a couple more things about me...

*I have my own craft room that I love to get lost in
*I would love to travel all of the time!! Especially all over the US
*I've only been to Disneyworld and Disneyland once (time to go again!!!)
*I have a fear of flying, but when I'm with my kids, the fear is not quite so big!!
*I was born in Minnesota, lived in North Dakota for 5 years then moved to TX when I was 6 (I need the bumper sticker that says, "I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could!")

Did you know...

~ I hold a BA and MA in art history.
~ I've worked in marketing ever since graduating and have never earned a penny as an art historian (unless you count a few freelance articles about local artists).
~ I love to travel. As an undergrad, I lived in London for a year and traveled all over Europe during that time. Since college, I've traveled for fun to Mexico, France, India, Spain, Argentina, Chile, Italy, and Turkey.
~ I am a terrible cook. Usually I eat out, but if I have to fend for myself I make mac and cheese (from a box) or quesadillas.
~ I'm named after my mother, who is named after her mother.

Just saw this. December kept me away from the forum but the new year has me back!

~ I'm married of 13 years to Nick Toon (yep...we get ragged about it all the time due to Nick at Nite, Nick Jr, Nick Toons, etc.)
~ My son's name is Nicholas as well but different middle name than my dh so that he didn't get laughed at at school for being a "Nick Jr". LOL
~I was diagnosed with Anxiety and OCD but leaning now towards Adult ADD. I'm about as anal as they come and can't focus on one thing. Everything has to be done NOW
~I have 3 children. And my middle daughter, Madison will tell people, Kayla (my oldest) looks like daddy, Connor looks like Uncle Steve and I look like my mommy and we have the same attitude. OH NOOOOOO
~I run a photography business with a very dear friend. We launched officially in December. And it's been great...but busy and nerve racking!!!
~ I also run an embroidery business with my mother.
~ I am extremely shy in person. But on the computer I can be LOADS of laughs.
~ OH and I'm in the Cincinnati, OH area (actually North of)

Hello

I live in Maryland, right above the Distict of Columbia. Lived in this area all my life.
I am married 34 1/2 years, to Jack. Yet I feel so much younger than I really am. LOL
I have 3 children:
Chris-34, married 4 years to Angela, has 2 babies, Natalie-3 1/2, Peyton-2
they live in Atlanta, and unfortunetly I don't see them often.
Susan is 29, married 5 years to Jesse, 1 son, Nathan age 2 1/2. Luckily she only lives 5 miles from me so I can get my baby fix. LOL
Nick is 17, a senior at Northwest High. And has been accepted to Penn State for the fall. He rather go to Maryland so, I hope we get a ltter from them soon. No girlfriends, yet...

This is probably more than anyone wanted to know... But I have even more to tell... later... much later.

I have been reading all the entries and its been great to get to know you all.
Well here goes, DYK
- I grew up in the States (all over the east coast)
- when we moved back to our home town in Germany, I was in 8th grade and it was the 8th school I went to (my dad was in the army)
- I got so into the habit of moving that during my university days I moved 9 times
- I have finally settled down and have been living in the same apartment for 5 years (the longest ever in one place)
- I live here with my sweetheart and our almost 2 year old son
- Being a mom has turned my world around. Life has never been so great.
- During pregnancy I gained 88 pounds (!). I went from 110 to 198 and am now at 128. I can live with that.
- My weight gain had its good parts too - I got a totally new wardrobe, its nice to have a fairly empty closet for a change. That really give you a good excuse to go shopping. I just love shopping with my mom.
- I'm a slow food enthusiast - we cook daily with fresh food from the region and don't use any kind of spice-kits, fast food, etc.
- I have a tool closet that contains more tools than most men have. Al from Tool-time would cry for joy if he ever saw it.
- I'm a sucker for technical devices. I got a new palm for Christmas and its sooo cute.
- I sold my car years ago when we moved to the city , 'cause I lost my cool looking for a parking space every day. So now I walk at least 3 miles a day.
- When the new IKEA catalog comes out in fall, I take a day of from work, so I can study it thoroughly
